The educational visit took place from 6 to 10 November on the island of Samos, with the participation of 15 students from the 1st and 2nd grades of upper secondary school, accompanied by three teachers. The students visited the non-profit organization “Archipelagos”, where they learned about the organization’s environmental activities and took part in hands-on activities with its researchers.
They carried out measurements of pH and salinity, conductivity, and temperature using school instruments acquired through the ProBleu project, which focuses on the quality of marine waters, as well as measurement kits provided by “Archipelagos”.
They studied the classification of the flora and fauna of the ecosystems they visited using a specific application and, as a group, selected thematic areas (zooplankton, coral reefs, and the Oinousses sinkhole) for further research. The students also had the opportunity to see the organization’s facilities up close, visit the research vessel “Triton”, the salt pans at Psili Ammos, and other educationally interesting sites on the island, such as various museums and archaeological sites.
Beyond the educational activities, the trip was also an opportunity for recreation and for strengthening relationships between students and teachers in a friendly atmosphere of close and constructive cooperation.
